FCPL Friends and Advocates, an independent non-profit organization, announced a $2800 donation to fund several Forsyth County Public Library programs at its fall Board meeting.
The funds were raised at the group’s Fall Book Sale in November at the Sharon Forks Library and will support the following Library programs:
- Summer Reading Program, to encourage and reward children for reading
- Youth Book Groups, such as Bookworms and Page Turners
- Teen Programs, such as Teen Cinema and workshops
- Money Smart Week, a series of classes and activities offered in April to help consumers better manage their finances
- Genealogy Programs, featuring guest speakers to help patrons use Library and public resources to trace their heritgage
- Family Cinema, screenings of feature films at the Hampton Park Library
“It’s our purpose and our pleasure to support our Library. The Friends exist to raise funds for programming that the regular budget can’t cover,” says Jennifer Dugan, President.
Even in the age of eBooks, libraries play a vital role in a community, Dugan added. The FCPL Friends and Advocates Board also pledged additional funds in the spring to continue and expand these programs.
