Book Store Ribbon Cutting Next Saturday at Cumming Library

FCPL Friends and Advocates, an independent non-profit organization, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Book Store at the Cumming Library on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00am.

Treasurer Ramona Stoner trains Book Store volunteers on sorting inventory and restocking the store.

The Book Store is open during the normal business hours of the Cumming Library and is staffed periodically by FCPL Friends & Advocates volunteers. At times when the Book Store is not staffed, patrons may still shop in the Book Store and then pay for their purchases at the Information desk.

“The Book Store carries the best selection of hard cover and paperback fiction from our general inventory, along with children’s books, non-fiction, and collectible sets,” says Paula Glover, Publicity Coordinator for FCPL Friends & Advocates. Prices range from $0.50 for paperback books to $1 and up for hard covers and special items, such as first or antique editions or signed booked.

“Several other libraries in metro Atlanta have on-site bookstores run by their Friends groups and volunteers,” says Ramona Stoner, Treasurer. “Our book sale events are the primary source of funds we donate to the Library. By continuing those sales and being able to sell year-round from a central location, we can do even more to support programming at the Library.”

In addition to funds raised at seasonal book sale events like the one planned for March 23-25, proceeds from the FCPL Friends & Advocates Book Store will be donated to the Library to support such programs as:

  • Summer Reading Program, to encourage and reward children for reading
  • Youth Book Groups, such as Bookworms and Page Turners
  • Teen Programs, such as Teen Cinema and workshops
  • Money Smart Week, a series of classes and activities offered in April to help consumers better manage their finances
  • Genealogy Programs, featuring guest speakers to help patrons use Library and public resources to trace their heritage
  • Family Cinema, screenings of feature films at the Hampton Park Library
