Thank you for your interest in Forsyth County Public Library Friends and Advocates!
WHO WE ARE
The Friends and Advocates is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was created by community volunteers as a support partner for Forsyth County Public Library in Cumming, Georgia.
WHAT WE DO
Library Financial Support: The Friends and Advocates operates bookstores in the Cumming, Post Road, Sharon Forks, and Denmark Libraries as well as maintains self-serve shelves in Hampton Park Library. The sales generated at the bookstores and from the self-serve shelves enable FCPL to present fun and informative adult, teen, and children’s programs, to offer creative and thought-provoking experiences, and to make available a variety of community resources.
Environmental Impact: Donated books that cannot be sold in the bookstores are sent to Better World Books to be recycled, among other things. In 2024, over 50,000 books were kept from entering local waste streams through the partnership with Better World Books.
Community Engagement: The Friends and Advocates supplies free books to FCPL to use in its Outreach Programs at the Juvenile Justice Center and Forsyth County Health Department and for libraries in community laundry mats. The Friends and Advocates also distributes books at the annual Aging Well Expo and Senior Services Volunteer Fair and for use in neighborhood “Little Free Libraries.”
Volunteerism: Over 100 volunteers are needed to operate the bookstores and storage and shipping facility. Residents ages 16 and older have opportunities to serve their community by being a Friends and Advocates volunteer.
