WELCOME

Thank you for visiting the  Forsyth County Public Library Friends and Advocates!

WHO WE ARE

In 1995, a group of community supporters created the Friends and Advocates to be a support for the Forsyth County Public Library System located in Cumming, GA. Membership today has grown to 168 members who dedicate their resources, time, and donations so that the Library system can be world class.   The population within the county has soared in the past 25 years and now the Library system has 4 branches and a circulation of 2.5 million.

WHAT WE DO

Financial Support:  The Friends and Advocates operates 3 bookstores inside the Cumming, Post Road, and Sharon Forks branches and sells thousands of books each year. The organization saves taxpayers money by offering some popular donated books back into the System’s circulation.  It also helps by selling public donated books as well as books that are being removed from the library’s circulation that otherwise would be discarded.  In the last 6 years the Friends and Advocates has raised over $300,000. The stores are open during the library hours and is serviced by 100 volunteers weekly.   It also offers several PopUp (temporary stores) at local community events.

Advocacy:    The Friends and Advocates are a vocal supporter of the Library’s programs and initiatives.

Community Engagement:  In 2018, The Friends and Advocates joined in partnership with the Forsyth County Jail to promote literacy by donating many paperback books each month for those that are incarcerated.
